Book Signing – Montana Children’s Author Cookie Grimes
From the Bitterroot Valley of Montana – Cookie Grimes is the author, illustrator and narrator of the children’s books Jake the Cow Horse and A New Year’s Family. She began her writing career eight years ago when she discovered she was going to become a grandma. Find out how and why her grandsons inspired her to write true animal stories!
Grimes will be doing a Book Signing at the following locations:
Saturday, May 2nd, 2009 from 10:00 – 12:00 at Montana Books & Toy Company located at 331 North Last Chance Gulch Helena MT.
Saturday, May 2nd, from 1:00 - 3:00 at Hasting Books Music & Video located 3215 N. Montana Helena MT.
Saturday, May 9th, 2009 from 11:00 - 1:00 at Barnes and Noble located at 2825 West Main St, Bozeman, MT.
Sunday, May 10th from 1:00 - 3:00 at Borders located at 2855 N. 19th Avenue, Bozeman, MT.
Cookie’s inspirations and ideas come through the animal characters that she has been blessed with having in her life, and the animals she has met along the way. Grimes says “Everyone has something to say, and I never know when someone has a lesson for me to learn.”
Cookie’s passion in writing children’s books is to teach family values and principles. Her books demonstrate to children the tools we need to get through life’s challenges. Her books offer awareness of patience, trust, leadership, being positive and confident, taking responsibility and having others feel good being around you.
Jake the Cow Horse is a love story inspired by an old palomino horse and a young Montana cowgirl. The story captures the bond between the two as they learn the transformative power of love. It's a horse story you'll never forget!
This book is a beautiful reminder to children and adults alike that all of God’s creatures are meant to be treated kindly.
A New Year’s Family is a love story about two ducks named Sarah and Christopher that meet on New Year's Day. The boy duck looks very different from the other ducks. Sarah and the animals, birds and insects around the bayou all learn the important lesson of physical appearance having little to do with who you are on the inside!
Cookie offers: “Throughout our lives we meet new people and make new friends, and we hope you will discover that appearance is not what’s important. Try to make a difference every day!”
Both books come with a free MP3 download from the publisher’s website. The information is located on the last page of the books. For more information about the author visit: http://www.cookiegrimes.com

Storytelling Time by Cookie Grimes!
Back in the mid 1980’s I was a voluntary ski instructor at the Round Valley Elementary School in Bishop, California. I taught children the basics of snow skiing, how to stop, make turns, how to get on the ski lifts---and most important how to have fun.
Every Wednesday during ski season I would meet the school bus filled with children at Mammoth Mountain, forty-five miles north of Round Valley. The children worked hard during the week to keep their grades up so they would be one of the lucky ones who would be able to ski that day. It was always fun to see the children; they were so excited!
For some it would be their first time and they would learn the basics of skiing. For others it would be another great day of being on the mountain and spending time with their friends. And for just a few it would be a day of sadness.
There are actually two stories that I’m going to tell you, and this is the first one:
I once had a little boy in my group who was afraid of heights. We were going up the mountain on the ski lifts and he told me how afraid he was. I always carried a roll of Lifesavers with me (you know, the candy).
I said to him, “How about a Lifesaver?”
He replied, “Yes, please,” with the sound of fear in his voice.
I asked, “What color would you like?”
He replied, “Red!” and then thanked me.
As we continued up the mountain the young boy whispered, “My dad would be very proud of me right now.”
I said, “Oh, why’s that?”
He answered, “I’m not afraid right now!”
“That’s great”! I replied, as we enjoyed our Lifesavers.
We spent the rest of the day going up and down the mountain. Each time we got on the lift I asked the boy if he would like a Lifesaver, and what color would he like? By the fourth time I asked him again, “Would you like a Lifesaver?”
His reply was, “Yes please!”
Again I asked, “What color would you like?”
This time his calm reply was: “Oh, it doesn’t matter; whatever you have is fine!”
I had two rolls of Lifesavers that day (plenty of flavors to choose from). I believe the boy got over his fear that day. He was proud of himself, and couldn’t wait to see his father and tell him all about it! What do you think?
The second story coming soon!
Happy Tales!

Meet Montana children's author Cookie Grimes
Cookie Grimes, author of the children's books "Jake the Cow Horse" and "A New Year's Family", would like to invite you to her book signing!
Saturday, February 7th, 2009 from 1:00 - 3:00 the book event will be held at Barnes & Noble, 2630 N. Reserve Street, Missoula, MT.
"Jake the Cow Horse", published by Tate Publishing of Oklahoma, is a love story inspired by an old palomino horse and a young Montana cowgirl. The story captures the bond between the two as they learn the transformative power of love. They learn that kindness and love are what makes friendship come alive, and are able to break the communication barrier between human and animal.
"A New Year's Family", also published by Tate Publishing, is a love story about two ducks who meet on New Year's Day: the boy duck looks very different from the other ducks. And because he is so different the birds, bees and animals around the pond talk about how unusual he is. They soon find out that he is kind, lovable, and gentle. Read how they discover that it doesn't matter what you look like from the outside; it's what you have stored in your heart that really matters.
Both books are a wonderful Valentine read for any boy or girl!
